Good Stock, properly housed, well kept are the true essentials of successful poultry culture. Do not understand that it is necessary to make any great outlay of money, but that fowls should be so housed as to make it comfortable and pleasant for them, and a pleasure and profit to the keeper. There is great uncongeniality between expensive houses and paying poultry. After a great deal of experience and observation, I am convinced of the superiority of small houses. Fowls like something that is cozy and snug. They like small apartments, and they are much easier to manage and keep clean. The principal requisitions for a house are: Protection from draughts, yet well ventilated ; and the conveniences of hen-life, snch as good roosts, nests, and dust-bath.
